Description:
This course introduces students to major critical approaches to literature and to the theory that underpins them. These include New Criticism, Marxist criticism, postmodernism, psychoanalytic criticism, structuralist criticism, reader-response criticism, gendered criticism, deconstruction, New Historicism, postcolonial criticism, ecocriticism, and post-humanism. Criticism and theory are viewed in the context of the institutional changes of English as a discipline. Students enrolling in this course should contact the instructor regarding the pre-term reading requirements.
