Pre-service teachers will examine teaching as enabling diverse learners to construct scientific understandings at the secondary level (7-12). Pre-service teachers will use the Next Generation Science Standards to prepare lessons and units. Pre-service teachers will learn how to elicit student thinking by preparing class discussions. In addition, they will assess student understanding through both formative and summative methods, learn to adapt science lessons to diverse learners including English Language Learners and students with special needs. Students will also be in local schools observing science teaching. They will be required to teach at least one science lesson. Students will accumulate a total of 30 clock hours in a Junior High School (7-9) setting.
