Description:
This course is about the questions biologists ask, how they test their hypotheses with model
species in laboratory experiments and on wild species in field experiments, the causes of
behaviors that have been discovered and the general types of behaviors that animals exhibit. The
course emphasizes the comparative approach to biology to understand the evolutionary, genetic
and physiological causes of behavior as well as the role of the physical and social environments.
Because humans share some ancestors, genes, anatomy and physiology with other animals,
students will learn about what motivates, stimulates and controls their own behavior, too.
Prerequisites: C- in three Biology courses.
