Description:
This course emphasizes developmentally appropriate practices for children in grades K-2. Pre-service teachers will have the opportunity to create lesson plans and unit plans that integrate curricula within the context of professional, state and local standards. Pre-service teachers will build a working knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies and assessment techniques used to inform educational decisions for children in grades K-2. This course focuses on the integration of literacy, art and movement throughout early elementary disciplines, including the adaptation of curriculum for diverse learners, including those who may lag in development. Pre-service teachers will be placed in a public school classroom, grades K-2, for 10 hours where they will be required to assist the mentor teacher, teach lessons, and reflect upon the field placement experience and required assignments.
